Reaction to The Snyder Cut Trailer

Hey everyone!

So if you’ve been following me on Twitter, you might’ve noticed that I have been posting a lot more about comics and superheroes recently. And I have three people/things to blame for that:

  1. TikTok – because I joined the #KidsOfXMen tag and it got me back into X-Men
  2. Linda from @justabookholic – because she knows almost as much about Batman as Alfred Pennyworth himself
  3. WandaVision – because damn it, I wasn’t going to watch this show but TikTok sucked me into it and now I’m rewatching the entire MCU

This isn’t really a recent fascination though. I’ve loved superheroes and comic book characters since I was a kid (mainly Marvel… it took a while for me to get into DC). So expect a lot more comic stuff to come out on this blog. And all of my socials, really. Starting with this – my thoughts on the trailer for the Snyder Cut of Justice League!
First things first, if you haven’t seen the trailer yet:

Snyder’s look already feels completely different than Whedon’s version. And while I’m one of the first people to make jokes about Batman being an edgelord (because, well, he is), Whedon’s version felt dark for the sake of being dark. Snyder’s, on the other hand, doesn’t feel that way. Even in an apocalyptic-hellish-nightmare-of-the-damned landscape.

And as shown by this video by Mebta, the first 51 seconds of the Snyder Cut trailer is completely original to this version, and some of the scenes that are similar are shot differently (Steppenwolf’s look changes in this version too). And in the trailer we see more of the two characters that I wish had more screen time in Justice League – The Flash and Cyborg. Apparently Cyborg has a larger story in this version, and I’m really excited to see it! I can’t wait for more promo pictures of Cyborg to release.

I’ll say it right now – I’m not the biggest Superman fan, mainly because the only times I’ve really seen him onscreen have been Man of Steel and Batman vs Superman (which I hate. SO. MUCH). But I’m excited for the design of him in this trailer. The sonic wave when he screamed out in pain? I actually got chills. From Superman. That is definitely not something I thought I would say.

And… *sigh* … continuing with the trend of me saying nice things about characters I hate.
…I… I actually want to see Joker in this movie.
Suicide Squad’s Joker looked stupid to me. I hate the aesthetic they had for him. I hate everything about that iteration of the Joker. And I really do mean everything (especially how he and Harley felt so romanticized). But the Joker of the Snyder Cut looks slightly less terrible. His look in the trailer works great with Batman’s from what we see.

And then he had to go and ruin it with that “we live in a society” line. This is why we can’t have nice things.

And of course, by now you’ve probably seen good ole Joker Jesus. You haven’t? Here ya go!

…I take back everything I said about wanting to see Joker in this film. Who thought this was a good idea? He looks stupid with the crown of thorns! I’d understand Superman in this pose (you know, the savior coming back from the dead? DOESN’T THAT MAKE MORE SENSE?), but it makes no sense with the Joker. Then again, when does he make sense? And this is a bit too much Joker on my blog for me, so MOVING ON.
Overall? I’m excited for this to come out. And we just have a bit less than a month to wait! My plan is to rewatch the DCEU movies before its release (Man of Steel, Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, Batman v Superman, Whedon’s Justice League, Birds of Prey, and Wonder Woman 1984). Seven movies in about three weeks? This should go well.
I bet it’ll be better than the Justice League movie we got though. I hope so, at a four hour long run time.
Thanks for reading, everyone, and I’ll see y’all soon with another post.
